Open Orchestra
Open Orchestras is a programme run by charity Open Up Music: https://www.openorchestras.org
It is co-run by a 'Music Leader' (a music specialist from SFE Music Service) and an 'Orchestra Leader' (a member of staff from school).
They run a combination of one to one, paired and small orchestra sessions weekly, where students can explore instruments, learn and create music, and find their own musical voice.
We play a range of instruments including acoustic and electronic instruments. One of them is the Clarion, which is an accessible instrument that comes as an app, developed by Open Up Music: https://theclarion.uk .
Since the launch of Hamilton School Open Orchestra in 2018, our students have taken part in events such as:
- SFE Youth Proms on the Symphony Hall stage!
- SFE Chamber Music Festival (both live and virtually
- Summer Sounds showcase at Mac Arts Centre
This year in March, we will take part in the Together for Music Festival at Symphony Hall, run by Music for Youth!
